10-year-old Mary Lennox is spoiled, demanding, and unwanted. Growing up with servants in British India Mary gets what she likes until an epidemic kills her parents and she is sent to live with family in England.

When she hears of a secret garden, locked since a tragedy ten years prior, Mary becomes preoccupied with finding it, and her manner softens as a result. But is the cause of the cries she hears in the night? And can that which has been neglected and dying for years be brought back to life?
