Like most people, I have literally been through the workplace mill, so to speak, experiencing stress, anxiety, fear and physical pain from most of the jobs I have worked at. I went home every day, not being able to switch off the day's work events that were running through my mind, and wondering if I could even go back to work the next day; workplace anxiety had become part of my daily routine.You reach a point where you say to yourself, "I have had it, I'm done with this job " Then you start thinking, "OK, so what can I do now?"
I have worked in some very stressful and physically demanding work environments. In my early working years alcohol and cigarettes helped with workplace stress management.
Having work experience as a Marine Engineer; Industrial Engineer; Electrician; Plumber; Welder; Machinist; Early Childhood Educator; Senior Building Manager; Crisis Line Worker and Community Care Worker, I can safely say I understand how most work environments function, and the stressors that come with most jobs.
One day I looked in the mirror and realized the 27-year-old reflection looked like he was 50; the worst part was that I felt like I was 50 years old and not 27; that was the point in my life when I decided things had to change: they did.
In my mid 40's life was at its most stressful; I had a family and was working with my clients who had complex disabilities; on one occasion a client tried to kill me with a broken chair leg; luckily my Martial Arts training, and Balance Board work saved me that day.
Now, you're probably thinking that by the time I did become that 50-year-old man I had mastered Workplace Stress Management and workplace anxiety, but that was not to be the case. At the age of 50 I had a six-week nervous breakdown; and here are the reasons why:
