Description

1939, Vilnius. A heartbreaking and powerful story about a young woman who is sent to Pre-State Israel to save her family, but when WW II breaks out, she gets cut off from them and her fianc . While trying to survive in the new, unfamiliar place, she stumbles upon a lost childhood sweetheart, and is torn between him and the love for her fianc .

Anka is forced to leave Vilnius after Jewish shops are broken into and looted in the late 30s. Sensing the impending danger, her father sends her to Pre-State Israel, to submit the immigration request to the British authorities on behalf of the family. She leaves them and her beloved fianc , Zalman, who promises to wait for her when she returns. Anka meets Abrasha, who was her counselor in the Socialist Zionist youth movement in Vilnius a few years earlier. Abrasha was also her first love, and when he left for Israel to join the Kibbutz and become a Zionist-he broke her heart. When the war breaks in Europe, Anka is forced to remain in Israel, where she needs to find a place to live and learn to survive. After losing contact with Zalman and her family, she hears about the atrocities committed by the Nazis against the Jews in Europe, and has no idea whether her family and fianc are alive or dead. Abrasha falls in love with Anka-but she remains loyal to Zalman. Despite his heartbreak, Abrasha remains a good friend and supporter. A few months later, after losing hope of ever seeing Zalman or her family again, she warms up to her kind friend Abrasha, marries him, and starts a new life. After their deaths, many years later, their daughter must vacate their home for sale. In her mother's closet, she discovers hidden letters that reveal a shocking truth about Anka.
